Orebić lies on the southern coast of the Pelješac peninsula, at the foot of Sveti Ilija hill, in a town shaped by the longest and richest seafaring and captaincy tradition on the Adriatic. Villa Mare sits right on this coast, just 1 m from the clear water of the Pelješac Channel and 400 m from the centre of Orebić. A café bar is 20 m away, restaurants are 300 m away, and shops, a bank and an ATM are 600 m away. The ferry port and marina are both 1 km from the villa, as are the bus station, a doctor, a dentist, a pharmacy and a tennis court. The nearest airport is 129 km away.
The landscape around Orebić is one of centuries-old pines, cypresses, olives, almonds and wild flowers, with sandy and pebbly bays and many small coves along the shore. Above the town, the Franciscan monastery and the church of Our Lady of the Angels stand on a hill that looks out towards the islands of Mljet and Korčula. Higher still, on the 910 m summit of Sveti Ilija, mouflon and other wildlife may be seen, and the archaeological site of Gornja Nakovana preserves traces of prehistoric life. The peninsula is known for its vineyards and for wines such as Dingač, Postup and Pelješac, and organised hikes and cellar visits are available. Local restaurants serve oysters and mussels, and summer brings musical evenings, folklore events and Dalmatian evenings. For day trips there is historic Korčula and its Old Town, the lakes of Mljet National Park, the sights of Dubrovnik and the oysters of Ston. The coast also suits sailing, diving, fishing, surfing and boat trips.
The villa is a traditional Mediterranean building of local stone and wood, materials carried through every room of the house. It was renovated in 2009 and offers 260 m² of indoor space on a 400 m² plot. Its finest feature is the yard, colourful and fragrant with palm trees, rosemary, lavender and hibiscus. A private saltwater pool of 24 m² is set within the grounds, with deck chairs, sunshades, an outdoor shower and pool towels. A summer gazebo with dining furniture and an outdoor grill invites long Dalmatian dinners. The garden also has a lounge set and deck chairs. From the courtyard, the sea and the islands of the archipelago lie directly before you. The beach is right beside the villa and is equipped with deck chairs and sun umbrellas, and beach towels are provided. Boat mooring is also listed among the villa's features.
The house rises over three levels. On the ground floor, a spacious living room with a sofa, satellite TV and a fireplace opens onto the yard through two separate doorways. A professional, fully equipped kitchen has its own dining area. The kitchen has a stove, oven, range hood, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher and microwave. It also has an espresso machine, a filter coffee machine, a juicer, a blender, a mixer, a toaster and a kettle, along with utensils, cutlery, dishes, glasses and tea towels. A bathroom with a shower completes this level.
A spiral wooden staircase leads to the first floor. Here there are two air-conditioned double bedrooms, each with a queen bed and measuring 30 m², and an air-conditioned single bedroom of 25 m². These rooms share a fully equipped bathroom with a shower. A smaller central lounge with a satellite LCD TV gives this floor a quiet sitting area of its own. The second floor is given over to the 50 m² master bedroom, which has a king-size bed and a window looking out over the sea. Its modern private bathroom has a separate bathtub. A sofa that converts into a double bed allows an extra sleeper in this generous room. In all, the villa sleeps 7 guests, with space for 2 more, across 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Comforts include air conditioning, heated floors, Wi-Fi, a DVD player, a hi-fi system and a massage mattress. Practical equipment includes a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, ironing equipment and a hairdryer. A baby cot and a high chair are available. Private outdoor parking for two cars is provided at the property, and pets are welcome on request. The price covers the tourist tax, a welcome package, and cleaning on arrival, at departure and every three days. Pool maintenance every three days is also included, and bed linen and towels are changed once a week or on request. A private chef and waiter, boat and car hire, guides, excursions, taxi and speedboat transfers, and concierge services can be arranged at extra cost.
