Best Time to Visit Flamands
Flamands enjoys the same reliably warm, breezy climate as the rest of St. Barts, with daytime temperatures sitting between roughly 27°C and 31°C year-round and sea temperatures rarely dropping below 26°C. What changes is the atmosphere, the swell and the price.
December to April - peak season. This is St. Barts at its most polished: dry, sunny days around 28°C, cooler evenings near 22°C, low humidity and a steady trade wind. Restaurants are fully staffed, the bay is at its liveliest and villas book far ahead, particularly for the Christmas and New Year weeks and the February half-term period. Winter also brings north swell, which turns the eastern end of Flamands into a surf beach - beautiful to watch, and worth noting if you want flat water for swimming.
May to June - the sweet spot. Arguably the best value on the island. The weather is still largely dry, the sea is calm and glassy, the beach is quiet and villa rates soften noticeably after Easter. Days hover around 29°C with warm, still evenings.
July to August - family season. Warm and green, with occasional short showers and temperatures near 31°C. The island has a festive, family-heavy feel and swimming conditions are usually excellent. September to October - the quiet months. The heart of hurricane season, when humidity rises and many restaurants and hotels close for annual maintenance. Some villas remain open at their lowest rates, but travel insurance and flexibility are essential.
November - the reopening. The island comes back to life, the air freshens, the sea is warm and the beach is still uncrowded. One of the most rewarding times to be in Flamands before the December rush.

Getting there. St. Barts is reached by a short hop to Gustaf III Airport (SBH), the island's famously scenic landing strip, or by ferry from St. Martin. Most guests fly into Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on St. Maarten - well connected via major North American, European and regional Caribbean hubs, and reachable from the Middle East and South America with one connection - then transfer by light aircraft in around 15 minutes or by ferry in 40 to 60 minutes. San Juan and Antigua also work as connecting points. From the airport, Flamands is a 10-minute drive; we arrange private transfers and pre-stocked villas so you arrive to a cold bottle and a made-up bed.
Getting around. A rental car or Mini Moke is essential in Flamands - the hillside roads are steep, and while the beach is walkable from most villas, Gustavia, St. Jean and Saline are not. Roads are narrow and hairpinned, so a compact vehicle is a blessing. Taxis exist but are limited in the evenings, and we can also organise a driver for nights out.
Eating on the beach. Flamands punches well above its size. La Case at Cheval Blanc Isle de France is the polished option for a long, elegant lunch on the sand; Le Cotton Club and the relaxed beach kitchens along the bay handle grilled fish, salads and rosé with no fuss. Ten minutes away, Gustavia offers Bonito, L'Isola and the harbourside classics, while Nikki Beach at St. Jean and the sunset tables at Shellona in Gouverneur are easy detours. In villa, a private chef is often the highlight of the week - particularly for groups who would rather dine on their own terrace above the bay.
What to do. Walk the cliff path from the western end of Flamands over to Anse de Colombier for a swim with turtles, snorkel the rocky points at either end of the bay, or take a boat day to Île Fourchue and the sandbars off St. Barts. Surf lessons and bodyboards suit the winter swell; paddleboards and kayaks suit the calm summer sea. Gustavia handles the shopping - Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Vanita Rosa and the island's excellent wine merchants - and the Wednesday and Saturday market mornings are worth the drive. Spa treatments, yoga on the terrace and personal trainers can all come to you, and several villas include a private gym.
Practicalities. St. Barts is French: the currency is the euro, though US dollars are widely accepted, and the plug type is European. Provisioning is best done at the larger supermarkets near St. Jean or Gustavia rather than the small village shops. Book restaurants and cars well ahead for the winter season.
