Set in the sunlit Luberon countryside, just five minutes by car from the hilltop villages of Bonnieux and Lacoste, Le Refuge de Provence is an 18th-century stone estate surrounded by unspoilt nature and rolling vineyards. With the Luberon hills behind and Mont Ventoux ahead, the setting reads like a classic Provençal scene: cherry orchards, vines unfurling across the land, a gently flowing spring and that particular soft, golden light.
The estate pairs a carefully restored traditional farmhouse with an adjoining guest house, giving families or friends travelling together both shared space and a welcome measure of privacy. Inside, exposed beams, natural materials and calm, muted tones carry the quiet of the countryside indoors. Up to eight guests are accommodated across five bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, two of which open directly onto the garden. Air conditioning in every bedroom, as well as in the living and dining rooms of the main house, keeps evenings cool and restful after days spent discovering the surrounding villages and vineyard roads.
Outdoors, the generous 15m × 7m private pool, fed by a natural spring and fitted with an electric cover, becomes the centre of summer life. Sun loungers line its edge, and a covered terrace looks out over the natural landscape, while the gardens offer a peaceful, secluded retreat beneath open skies. Pool heating is available on request, with additional charges possible. Hiking trails lead out from the house into the Luberon hills.
Close to Bonnieux and Lacoste yet pleasingly removed, this is a place to embrace the Provençal art of living well: lingering over local wines and produce, and watching the light shift slowly across the vines and hills.
