Backstage Chalet is an exceptional home, inspired by a traditional Valais house from the 1940s, that has been meticulously modernized and expanded by two levels under the direction of renowned architect and artist Heinz Julen. Using only local larch wood, Julen created an extension featuring expansive glass facades that capture breathtaking 360-degree views over the village and the iconic Matterhorn.
The chalet offers five double bedrooms, one with an additional high sleeper, making it ideal for families with children. Its top-floor living, dining, and kitchen areas boast an open gable roof structure and a cozy fireplace, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. A defining feature of the property is the remarkable whirlpool, which hydraulically extends above the chalet roof at the press of a button, offering an unparalleled, elevated view of Zermatt and the surrounding peaks.
Bedrooms are situated across two floors beneath the main living space, and the lower level includes a private cinema and games room, complete with a workstation, WC, and shower. A neighboring ski room with heated boot racks and private lift access completes the floor plan. Each piece of furniture and decor is custom-designed by Julen himself, blending traditional alpine elements with contemporary flair and unique art installations from Zermatt’s art scene.
Combining originality, luxury, and stunning craftsmanship, Backstage Chalet elevates the concept of a 5-star mountain retreat and offers an exceptional experience in the heart of Zermatt.
