Why Choose Marbella for a Luxury Villa Holiday?
Temperature units
La Concha, the distinctive peak of the Sierra Blanca, rises directly behind a 27km stretch of the Costa del Sol, and the range shelters the coast well enough that winters here are milder than across much of mainland Spain. The coast changes character as it runs west. Los Monteros and East Marbella sit to the east, the Golden Mile links the Old Town to the marina at Puerto Banús, and the quieter New Golden Mile and Guadalmina lead towards Estepona. Behind them, Benahavís climbs into the hills, home to the gated estates of La Zagaleta and El Madroñal. All of it is a short transfer from the airport.
What a villa adds here is space and privacy that the resort hotels on the Golden Mile cannot offer, which is why groups and multi-generational families return. Days tend to be organised around the table and the course: espetos at beachfront chiringuitos, Michelin-starred cooking in the Old Town, the dining rooms of Benahavís, and more than a dozen courses within easy reach of our golf villas. Our concierge can arrange private chefs, in-villa spa treatments and tee times before you land.
The table in Find Your Perfect Villa matches each area to the way you travel.

Best Time to Visit Marbella
Late May to June and September to October are the months we would pick: warm enough for the beach, quieter than high summer, and good for golf and walking. Marbella works in every month, though, because the Sierra Blanca shelters the coast from northerly weather and the town records around 320 days of sunshine on average. The trade-offs are July and August, when heat, crowds and prices peak, and March, statistically the wettest month, though rarely a settled grey one.
Historical averages for this area over the past 10 years: typical high and low temperatures, total monthly rainfall and peak wind speed. Conditions vary from year to year.
Spring (March to May)
Rain tends to fall in short fronts with clear days between, leaving the hills above Benahavís and the New Golden Mile green until the summer browns them off. This is prime golf season at Marbella Club Golf Resort, Los Flamingos, La Quinta and the Guadalmina courses, with cooler mornings and softer greens. The Sierra de las Nieves National Park, a 40-minute drive inland, is at its best for walking before the summer heat. Spring suits golfers, walkers and couples who prefer uncrowded restaurants.
Summer (June to August)
Hot, dry and lively. The sea typically reaches 23°C–25°C by August, and the beach clubs along the Golden Mile and around the Puerto Banús marina run at full tilt. Families gravitate to Los Monteros and Guadalmina Baja for wide sandy beaches and calm water, and watersports peak. Mid-August is the busiest fortnight. Villas for August are generally reserved six to nine months ahead, with larger properties in Los Monteros, Puerto Banús and on the Golden Mile going first.
Autumn (September to November)
Many regulars consider this the best season. September is still warm and the sea holds its summer heat at around 23°C, while the August crowds thin noticeably after the first week. October is mellow, with golf courses in excellent condition. Rain increases from October but typically comes in bursts rather than settled grey weeks. By late October and November the chestnut woods of the Genal Valley turn copper, and walking and cycling in the hills behind Benahavís become comfortable. Autumn suits golfers, food-focused travellers and anyone who wants warm weather without the queue for a sunbed.
Winter (December to February)
Quiet and sunlit, with sunny spells dominating even in January, which brings the second-highest rainfall total of the year. Golf remains the main draw: the Benahavís and Nueva Andalucía courses fill with northern European players escaping their own winter, and villas beside the fairways are in steady demand. The Golden Mile hotels and spas run at a relaxed pace that suits wellness-led stays, and availability is much easier than in summer. The Sierra Nevada ski resort near Granada is roughly two and a half hours by car, so a ski day is realistic between December and April.

Seasonal Highlights
- Semana Santa (late March or April): Holy Week processions through the whitewashed lanes around Plaza de los Naranjos in the Old Town.
- Feria de San Bernabé and Virgen del Carmen (June and 16 July): the feria opens the summer season, and the Virgen del Carmen sea procession follows in July.
- Starlite festival (late June to late August): open-air concerts in a natural quarry above the Golden Mile.
- Ronda harvest and the Goyesca (early September): the grape harvest in Ronda's vineyards coincides with the town's historic bullring festival, around 90 minutes from the coast.
- Chestnut season in the Genal Valley (late October and November): the "copper forest" turns, with village festivals and roadside chestnut stalls.
- Christmas lights and Three Kings (December to 5 January): lights along the Puerto Banús marina, then the Cabalgata de Reyes on 5 January.
Concierge Travel Guide to Marbella
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is around 45 minutes by road from Marbella and well connected through major European, Middle Eastern and North American hubs, with seasonal long-haul links in summer. Gibraltar, about an hour west, has its own airport, which can suit the New Golden Mile and Guadalmina. The Golden Mile and Puerto Banús can largely be managed on foot or by taxi, but a hire car or private driver makes hillside villas far easier, and private transfers are simple to arrange.
Where to Eat
Marbella holds more Michelin stars than any other town on the Costa del Sol. Skina, a tiny two-star room in the Old Town, leads the field; Messina, Nintai and Back each hold one star, and El Lago in Elviria, East Marbella, pairs its star with a lakeside golf setting. On the Golden Mile, the Puente Romano resort gathers Dani García's Leña (one star), Lobito de Mar and BiBo alongside Nobu. Ten minutes inland, Benahavís village is known locally as the dining room of the Costa del Sol. For local cooking, order espetos, sardines skewered and grilled over embers at a beachside chiringuito, with red wines from the Serranía de Ronda under the Sierras de Málaga DO or a sweet Málaga Moscatel. Ronda's bodegas are around 90 minutes away. Street markets run on Monday in Marbella, Thursday in San Pedro and Saturday beside the Nueva Andalucía bullring.
Beaches
Playa de Nagüeles on the Golden Mile is home to the Marbella Club and Puente Romano beach clubs, with Playa de la Fontanilla the main town beach and Puerto Banús the liveliest stretch, where Ocean Club sets the pace. East of town, Los Monteros beach has La Cabane and Trocadero Arena, Nikki Beach anchors Elviria, and Cabopino is backed by the protected Artola dunes, the nearest thing to a wild cove on this generally open coastline. In Guadalmina Baja the beach runs past Las Bóvedas, the remains of Roman baths. Beach clubs typically operate from May to October. Our beachfront villas, and those a short walk from the sand, are concentrated along the Golden Mile, around Puerto Banús and at Los Monteros.
Golf
The Golf Valley of Nueva Andalucía, directly behind Puerto Banús, holds Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, Aloha and Los Naranjos. Benahavís has the largest concentration of courses in the area: La Zagaleta (members and their guests only), Seve Ballesteros's Los Arqueros, La Quinta, Marbella Club Golf Resort and Los Flamingos at the Villa Padierna resort. Guadalmina has two courses, Norte and Sur, Río Real sits beside Los Monteros, and Santa Clara and Marbella Golf & Country Club serve East Marbella. Valderrama in Sotogrande is about 45 minutes west. Autumn to late spring is the best season; in summer, play early. Most of our golf villas sit within 20 minutes of several courses.
With Children
Aqualand in Torremolinos and the Mijas water park open for the summer season, generally June to September. Selwo Aventura in Estepona, Bioparc Fuengirola and Sea Life in Benalmádena cover wildlife within an hour's drive, and dolphin-watching trips leave from Puerto Banús.
Things to Do
Private charters leave from the Puerto Banús marina, with Gibraltar and Estepona both reachable by sea; calm water makes July to September the natural window. Inland, the Sierra de las Nieves became a national park in 2021 and rises directly behind Benahavís. The Guadalmina river gorge walk to Charco de las Mozas and the hike up La Concha (1,215 m) are both best tackled between October and May, while the Caminito del Rey gorge walkway is about 90 minutes north.
Culture and History
Marbella's Old Town centres on Plaza de los Naranjos, with Moorish walls, the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo and Salvador Dalí bronzes along Avenida del Mar. The Ralli Museum on the Golden Mile shows Latin American art, and the Roman villa at Río Verde near Puerto Banús preserves fine mosaics. Puerto Banús itself, opened in 1970, is worth an evening for the marina alone. Ronda and Málaga's Picasso Museum are each comfortable day trips. The festival calendar, from Semana Santa to Starlite, is set out in Best Time to Visit.
What We Can Arrange
Our concierge team can arrange private chefs, tee times, chauffeurs, airport transfers and hire cars delivered to the villa, as well as boat charters, childcare and tennis coaching.
Find Your Perfect Villa in Marbella
Marbella is a string of neighbourhoods rather than a single resort, and the area you choose shapes the stay more than anything else. We currently offer 60 villas across them. Benahavís, in the hills, is our largest collection, with gated estates at La Zagaleta and El Madroñal and golf on the doorstep. The Golden Mile holds the grandest beachfront addresses, Puerto Banús is the base for the marina, boutiques and late nights, and the New Golden Mile has quieter beaches. Los Monteros pairs pine-backed sand with Río Real nearby, while Guadalmina, Guadalmina Baja and East Marbella are smaller, quieter pockets for golf-led or beach-led stays.

| Luxury escapes | Golden Mile or Benahavís | Marbella's most exclusive addresses, from beachfront mansions on the Golden Mile to Sierra Blanca and La Zagaleta estates. |
If you already know what matters most, start with a collection: beachfront villas on the Golden Mile and at Los Monteros, hillside villas around Benahavís, or houses with clear-day views across to Gibraltar and the Rif.
